Here is a post that has been sitting in my drafts for a long time.
Months and months it’s been there to be set loose.
I almost posted it last month but with the bombings in London I held it back.
So now here it is.
The hardest subject to talk about is religion, but you know what, we have too. Religion claims most of the people of the world as their children.
It’s very important to the structure of society.
It gives people a purpose and hope.
It sets rules that govern families and behavior which eventually filters down to how we live in amongst others in society.
All religions are important, no matter whom your prophet is, the basics are almost all the same.
Religion is not for everyone.
For some it’s everything.
But you must always, go into it with both eyes open.
I have always questioned it and always will.
No matter what religion everyone believes in, they all have the 2 most important common factors, Faith and Family.
I am Greek Orthodox and have been from the time I was born. As a child it was instilled in me, not by choice but by my parents. As I grew up and started to learn and read and develop an independent thought I came to the realization that I do not believe in God.
Well that’s not true.
I don’t believe in the God my church does.
I’ll explain later on.
I do however believe in Jesus Christ and everyone connected to him as I do believe in all the prophets of all the other religions of the world.
These were men who were kind and loved people and didn’t like the way they were being treated and dreamed about freeing them from tyranny and greed.
They stood up and reached out to help their fellow man and paid for it with the only thing they owned on this world, their lives.
They didn’t die though, because we still remember them and they are with us even now in their teachings and their good deeds.
I will not give credit to God, for this.
My religion is Christianity and not Godiology. (I want credit for this word if it catches on)
The Christians rose over 2000 years ago and freed their people. They shunned the Idol worshipers and gathered in open spaces and spoke their words of wisdom about freedom, family and love.
In the years that passed a lot changed and in the process of time and change they themselves became Idol worshipers.
What is that screaming I hear out there from some of you?
Ok let me try and show you.
Granted we don’t pray to cows, bears, rats, cats or sheep.
Our Idols are of people.
We run to distant churches and fall at the feet of bleeding pictures and or crying statues throughout the world. We built huge statues on mountain tops and have people crawl up there on their hands and knees begging for God to reach down and cure them or spare an ill child from a horrible disease.
God again, he pops up everywhere and has been no where.
Then when it fails, you’re told it was Gods will.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Let’s look at the biggest Idol of all. It’s HUGE and daunting. It’s gilded in gold (remind you of the golden calf a bit) and fine silks costing billions of dollars.
They take the food out of the mouths of babes to build this Idol. It takes the life savings of the elderly and replaces it with a belief of peace and tranquility.
It’s called The Church.
Those huge structures cost so much to build and decorated with stained glass and the gilded walls. The million dollar pews and the 18 carat candlesticks with the massive chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. The money spent on one church could feed millions of starving kids, but no we need them.
It’s the House of God it is said.
God is the one that we never see and we must fear, because errrr ummm, why must we fear him again?
Jesus said that the house of God is in your heart. Where ever you are and where ever you go its Gods house.
This is saying that you don’t need a special place to pray.
Church is in your heart.
This is a man who despised money and shunned it.
This is a man that was sold out with it.
This is a man who died because of someone’s greed.
Do you think Jesus would walk into St Peters Cathedral and be happy with what he saw?
Or would he be disgusted with the pomp and the wastefulness of the religion that bears with name.
Oral Roberts, well here is a man that fucked up so many people and they still loved him.
He stood in front of cameras and millions of people and looked them in the eyes and said that God needed millions dollars and if all of you out there didn’t send him the millions of dollars that God will come down and pluck him off the face of the earth forever.
“Sigh” If that were only true, but you know what he GOT it.
I guess God needed it to pay off gambling debt he made with the Devil.
The Vatican, what more is there to say?
They have so much stuff stashed there its mind bending. They have scripture that would put Christianity back to the beginning and open their coffers to the people. That scripture is gone for ever trust me.
For the last 2000 years Christianity has been twisted and turned from its original direction by the interpretations of the individuals in charge at the moment. Then the next pope and his crew come in and he thinks slightly different and twists it even more away from the original ideals.
Jesus would have no idea what this religion is no more.
Hell he might even become a Buddhist after he sees this mess if he came back.
Then there are the fucken fanatics of religion.
All religions have them.
Christians in Bosnia, England, Ireland, Germany, Spain and those who happened to be Jewish in Israel, Palestine and Lebanon who use their religious beliefs to legitimize the violence they commit. Many people have died in the name of God in all religions.
Pope Urban II and the crusades is what started the Muslim hating us.
They went out there and murdered and raped like the people that Jesus came to free his people from. They went a full circle from the oppressed to the oppressor.
As the Christians were told, (In November of 1095, Pope Urban II initiated the first European attempt at colonizing the Muslim world - known in the West as the Crusades - by drawing this fateful picture: For you must hasten to carry aid to your brethren dwelling in the East, who need your help, which they have often asked. For the Turks, a Persian people, have attacked them I exhort you with earnest prayer - not I, but God - that, as heralds of Christ, you urge men by frequent exhortation, men of all ranks, knights as well as foot soldiers, rich as well as poor, to hasten to exterminate this vile race from the lands of your brethren Christ commands it. And if those who set out thither should lose their lives on the way by land, or in crossing the sea, or in fighting the pagans, their sins shall be remitted. Oh what a disgrace, if a race so despised, base, and the instrument of demons, should so overcome a people endowed with faith in the all-powerful God, and resplendent with the name of Christ. Let those who have been accustomed to make private war against the faithful carry on to a successful issue a war against the infidels. Let those who for a long time have been robbers now become soldiers of Christ. Let those who fought against brothers and relatives now fight against these barbarians. Let them zealously undertake the journey under the guidance of the Lord.)
Then as the oppressed (the Muslims) have now become the oppressors through acts of terrorism, talk about holding a grudge for a long while.
They are told the infidels (us) have to be punished for who we are and that God demands it. Sounds just like what that other nut up there said 1000 years ago and look its God again, still can’t see him but he is still messing with us.
Hey here is a though. Do you think that if the Ayatollah or what ever they call them went on TV and said that God wanted 30 billion dollars or god would come down and take him away and if he got the money would the bombings would stop?
Food for thought lets call Oral.
Social issues are affected by religion.
The saying of the Lord’s Prayer before class every morning at school, who’s Lord’s Prayer would that be?
Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist maybe a Hare Krishna chant would be good.
Come on think how fun that would be dancing around with tambourines and little drums having a ball. We could all wear those orange robes and look like escaped convicts and hang out at the airports.
When Greece joined with the rest of Europe in a common goal bringing them together as one, an Archbishop jumped up and started a big stink by wanting them to put what religion a person was on their identification card. To what end?
What does it matter what prophet you believe in?
Name: Walker
Date of Birth: March 26 1959
Address: Ottawa, Canada
Sex: not in awhile
Religion: Which ever one can save my ass when it’s in a sling.
We go shopping for food and depending on our religion we just can’t eat anything. It has to be kosher, or it can’t be pork or the cow is sacred for some.
Poor veggies, everyone eats them.
What about Veggie rights!!!!!!!!
Eat a cow save a carrot.
Who is God?
For me, the planet Earth is God.
He gave us life and Mother Nature suckled us.
Religion is our guidelines.
Every religion is basically the same when it comes down to the moral issues.
The dietary rules are based on the region and what makes the people ill there. Lets face eating pork in a hot climate is only asking for tape worms.
Religion was created for the good of people, to bring them together from being scattered all over the place for protection and reproduction. It’s all part of survival.
Religion has become a money hungry business and now is the cause of so much grief.
It’s time we found the love again.
I will still be Greek Orthodox but I won’t believe in the God they say but the God I trust.
Earth
I respect everyone religion and their beliefs thats why I cook separatly for my Jewish friends and my Muslim friends when they come to my Bbqs, and yes they are all there together having a good time.
I think we all deserve the same
These have all been my opinions.
Have a nice weekend
