Fried ©

Sniff

I have been upgraded to getting better with an Olympic class runny nose.
It seems all I have been doing this week is sleeping during weird hours like in the afternoon and waking up in the evening or like tonight when I passed out around 8pm and just woke up at 3 am.
This is going to be another fucked up day; I can see it already, especially when I wake up this early.

I managed to go next door this morning to help my parents with making the fried bread.
It’s not like I was sleeping or anything since I woke up at 5 am yesterday.
When I got there they had already been up and make the dough and were ready to get started.
When I looked at the tub I almost passed out.
WTF were they going to do with fifty fucken pounds of fried dough.
Do you have any idea how much fifty pounds of unfried dough is after you fry it and HOW MUCH TIME IT’S GOING TO TAKE TO FRY IT ALL?

My mother says she has to make some for Mike’s mother because she can’t because of religious reasons.
Her brother died this year and they can’t show signs of celebrations for a year or it’s disrespectful.

Ok, that’s fine, but that’s still a lot of dough.

She says she has to make some for her younger brother because he is single and doesn’t have a wife to make him some.

Yeah but he has a daughter she can make some?
It seems my cousin doesn’t know how and my mother is making her some to and her brother………..in fact, we made fried bread for about 10 people.
Took three hours to do but we did it.

My mother just turned 80; my father will be 80 next year.
They never stop working, or arguing ha ha ha
They are grumpy old demanding people who are used to getting their way but who still hold strong family values.

Growing up in a small village in rural Greece they lived a communal life until they came here.
In Greece they used to all gather at one house one weekend and make mountains of noodles or fried bread.
10-20 women would gather and start making what they were there to make while the men would dig pits to fill with logs to start fires to lay out the spits with the lamb and other delicacies.
It was a festive event that was put on by the women of a family or the neighbourhood and when it was all done they would equally separate what they had made together.
It beats sitting alone in a kitchen wishing you had four extra hands.

Those years are gone for my parents but what they have done is adapted the idea to suit their needs today, in this society.
If someone can’t do something for one reason or another, the others pitch in and help.
Be it baking cookies or roasting meat to share, family has always been there for one another.
This is one of the biggest parts of family, taking care of family when needed but even that is slowly dieing away in today’s world but that’s another post.

After securing my share of fried bread, not including the bunch I ate while making it, I went next door to lay down and get some rest.
Did I get any, no?
When I am bored and wouldn’t mind some company to talk to, do you think I could find anyone, no?
But when I want to be left alone the whole world wants to talk to me or maybe even drop by with 100 flaming suicide wings to finish off what was left of my insides.

One of my friends thought suicide wings might make me feel better so he ran down with a barrel full of Atomic WINGS.
I don’t know why I’m still alive.

While I was hosing down my mouth with the fire extinguisher he was telling me about this thing he signed up for to meet singles.
I guess the guys are getting tired of waiting for a bus to hit one while crossing the street to go drag home so are trying new things.

He said it cost him $36 and it’s like a wine tasting event where 24 singles get together and mingle while tasting different brands and maybe find someone they like.
That’s not a bad idea, a new twist on an old idea.
Still meeting strangers at the bar you just plan it better now.
But I had to tell him that I was a bit set back when he told me he was going to a wine tasting event because he hates wine.

He the told me he still hates wine and he wouldn’t go if it was a wine testing event but this is a beer tasting event.
Huh, beer?
Yeah he said he was going to the pub not far from here to taste beer and meet women.

Most women I know hate beer.
Most men I know love beer.
Who wants to bet he ends up spending the night with 23 other men at a bar drinking?

I also pointed out to him he just paid $36 to go drink at a pub he drinks in once or twice a week already and probably knows everyone one there.

I can’t wait to hear that story.
Fuck it, I am going to go and watch ha ha ha.

I should leave you here so I have something left for a Monday post.
Hmmm I think I’m feeling better, good sign.
See, talking to you peeps is a miracle cure.

Have a nice day

Walker

So glad to hear you're feeling better! Your parents sound like my kind of people. That's great news on quitting smoking, and I wish you the best of luck. Hey, if you go to watch, do you have to pay the $36.00? :)

Glad you're feeling better and talking to us in the computer makes you feel better! LOL.. hmmm... your family...sound a lot like the Japanese..but they are almost 80 you say..they will not change in their ways now! My MIL is 86...believe me... there are a lot of things about her that are similar..though she has not uprooted from her home to move to another country like yours has.
Can't wait to hear your story about the girls and beer too...hope your friend catches a good one!

Hey Walker, glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. Those wings probably frightened your cold away or sweat it out of your system, one or the other.

I love those old family values and wish they were more prevalent in today's society. It's great when everyone jumps in together for a common cause and then shares the bounty. Just wonderful!

Just one question, are you still off the ciggies. I'm still clean.

Hey, here is one girl that loves her beer so not every girl you know hates beer. I want to go and watch too, sounds like fun.

Good luck on quitting the nasty habit of cigarettes! I hope this time it's forever!

I like my beer .... a lot!
Well, not as much as I used to.
But still ....

I'm sort of jealous about the family thing, but I understand wanting privacy too.

Hope you stay "clean"! :D

Sally: I am happy to be better.
There are some good points about my parents way of living and some bad ones.
Its trying to find the balance that drives me crazy lol

No they are going to my local pub, I don't have to pay, so the entertainment will be free for me. LOL

JYankee: There is nothing wrong with the old ways, they were perfect for that time.
As life gets more modern so should how we live life.

I will keep you posted about the beer tasting date :)

Gypsy: Yes I am still not smoking :)

Getting together to do things makes it easier for everyone especially when the work requires more than one person and its fun when you make it a party.

These are the best tasting wings i have ever eaten, I just wish they weren't as hot as they are.

Patti : Thanks, I got to go. The thought of paying 36 bucks to go where you go to for free to taste beer you can taste any time just sounds nuts to me.

BikerCandy: I love beer and have moved to enjoying it more instead of drinking like a pig to get high.
I try alot of different kinds for a change. Some are good, some just make you gag.

I want to see to, aren't we bad LOL
