What Do You Mean I Have To Go Out There?!!!!!! ©

Alright let’s see if I could kick start a post and see where it goes.
Most of you by now know I live in Ottawa, Canada and for the ones that don’t, who the hell have you been reading all this time?
Just kidding, there are heaps of great blogs on line and you would be doing yourself a favor by going down my sidebar and finding a variety of blogs I love to read. Just watch out for Rambin On, you may end up ripping up your floor and redoing it after you see what MrH did.

Winterlude is in full swing here right now.
It’s a festival which takes place in the winter of course and the events are all outside. There are snow and ice sculptures, bed races and much much more.
The main staging area is the longest stating rink in the world, the Rideau Canal at 7.8 km. It is emptied to 6 feet and groomed to a freaking bumpy ice rink that makes your joints rattle if you skate to fast.
They promote skating on the canal during Winterlude mostly because IT’S SO FUCKEN COLD and if you stand still on the ice to long you may be mistaken for an ice sculpture.
The ice is so thick they have plows driving on it, cleaning it and watering it every night.
There are stands and booths at either end selling hot chocolate (with or without marshmallows) apple cider and beaver tails (fried pastry dough with your choice of fruit topping).
There had to be 10,000 people at Dows Lake the other day during the snow sculpture judging.
I can remember going as a kid.
Was it warmer back then or could I skate longer to keep warm, Hmmmm must have been warmer ha ha ha.
There weren’t as many events but it was fun being able to go outside.
Now there are events happening for 10 days and thousands of tourists flock here to watch and many to strap on a pair of skates for the first time.
This also explains the increase in twisted ankle injuries and cracked tale bones at the local hospitals.
The other day we had an earthquake here which is strange but I understand that some of the skaters reported waves being made as well as some nasty cracks according to a friend.
Did I mention many people skate to work during the winter while the canal is safe to skate on?
It is not uncommon to see a lawyer skating to the court house which is by the canal or students skating to Ottawa University.

I am posting some picks of Winterludes gone by so that you could see what my city looks like in the winter.
