The Showdown ©

This day was inevitable; it was in the cards to happen. The showdown was meant to take place in order for there to be a balance in the universe. The combatants have both been fierce and relentless in all their previous encounters with others. They have never met before, but that will change today.
For 18 months they have been no more than 30 yards from each other and at times as close as 3 feet, but have never seen the other.
One is swift and agile, the other slow, but sure of their movements.
One can lash out and strike with blinding speed and accuracy, while the other has a death grip like an alligator.
They both are sure of themselves and walk with their heads high, full of piss and vinegar.
They don’t care what people say, they just do what they want, leaving a path of destruction behind them.
I was standing by the screen door watching the construction outside, when I felt a presents close by. I turned and almost jumped.
I wish you would make some noise before you sneak up behind me, I said. You scared the shit out of me. All I got was a blank stare in return.
I stepped out on the porch to breathe the dust filled air and there it was, the other one came stomping over to me, looking up into my eyes, I became weak in the knees.
It was noon and the sun was high in the sky. They were now 8 feet apart and hadn’t seen each other yet, but I could feel it in the air. This was it, first contact between these two, what will happen. A slight movement caught one’s eye and everything stopped. They were now staring at each other, knees slightly bent. A squeal ran out from one, a growl from the other, and they both ran at each other, colliding half way. Blows were being tossed back and forth. They were both flaying at each other to no avail. Neither could get a clean shot in at the other. This went on for 30 seconds until they both stepped back, unharmed and frustrated. They stared at each other for a bit and then walked away.
This was the first time my cat Frick met my niece and the screen in the door is bent out of shape to prove it.
Amanda has never seen a moving stuffed toy before and Frick, I’m sure was having flashbacks of my daughter putting him in a Cabbage Patch Doll’s dress and strapping him into a stroller, when she was a little older than my niece. He probably thought it was her, they look so much alike.
My niece sees everything with new eyes and is curious about everything and everything get a taste test lol.
She prefers hanging out with the men and runs from the women, she’s nuts about my father. I’m sure we will have our hands full soon enough.
The combatants: my niece and Frick
