Sunday Morning ©

Today is Sunday and a beautiful day it is. I woke up at 11 am and after the usual buffing of the teeth, massaging of the gums (I love my Water Pik). A quick shower, and a shave I went down stairs to meet my guest who has been staying with me for the last 2 ½ weeks. I open the door and the weather was perfect, 19 degrees Celsius.
This is my guests last day here and she is off tomorrow for England and home. She has had a good visit.
I had arraigned to meet another friend for Dim Sum in China town for noon so we left the house at 11:45 am, for a pleasant walk. The neighbors were all out on their porches talking waving at all the people they hadn’t seen for the last 4 months. We tend to hibernate for the winter.
The crocuses were in full bloom all over the place. The tulips and daffodils have begun there assault in the gardens. Soon the neighborhood will be covered with the colors of spring, brightening up the place, replacing the white blankets of snow which had covered everywhere.
We got to the restaurant, Kim was there waiting for us. We went up stairs and were shown to our seat. Here the waitresses walk around pushing carts with small portions of different items. It’s like one big food sample fest. We were trying everything we knew and a couple of new stuff. I’m still not eating chicken feet though.
As the girls were talking I decided to look at the menu. I have never eaten dinner here so I thought I’d take a peek to see if there was anything I liked in it.
Sitting right there in the soup section something caught my eye. Birds nest soup $500 for a large bowl. $500 serves six people. I wonder if the bowls are gilded and we can take them home.
For those of you who do not know what Birds Nest Soup is, I’ll tell you.
There are these birds in Thailand called Sea Swifts. The birds build their nests with a secretion from their jaw glands. Bird spit. The nests are harvested and turned into birds’ nest soup.
First, I have problems with eating my soup if I find a hair in it so why would I pay $500 for a bowl of spit. I’ll stick to eating alligator.
After brunch we went outside and sat on a bench and talked about what has happened to us in the 16 months we haven’t seen each other.
An hour went by and it was time to head home. On the way back we were walking through the neighborhood, I’ve lived here for 40 years. I was pointing out spots on the landscape and telling bits of stories, see there. That’s where I found that silver cigarette case you like. See over there that’s where I was run over and spent the next 2 years learning how to walk. See that tree I climbed it when I was 6 years old. This is where we played ball hockey and see that corner, that’s where I got my first blowjob.
Ah. I love this neighborhood.
Beautiful weather, good friends, blooming flowers, and great memories and no spit soup,
What a great Sunday to have.
I wish the girlfriend was here to share it with me or to relive a memory.

Have a Nice Day

my relatives on my mom's side of the family tried to make me eat it. i think i had the same problem at the time i heard it was bird spit. but for the sake of health, I am now taking it regularly.

btw, i don't buy the super-expensive kind like old people do. the ready-to-drink kind at the stores are pretty affordable. (e.g. www.geocities.jp/hongkong_bird_nest/index_e.htm)
