Give Me A Break ©

Good grief, where does it end.

First, we finished the wiring in my mother’s house and the worse part of this project.
YAY!!!!!!
I would have started putting on the dry wall and had arranged to have some delivered but when the person I had instructed to deliver the drywall for free I might add my brother told him that we didn’t need it now because he had already got some.
Really, well if he did then where the fuck is it?
Last night and this morning I had to deal with a crying mother who is suffering from asthma and a house filled with dust that needs to be dealt with immediately but I have an asshole brother who has done nothing but slow everything down and complicate things.
Now I have to either talk that person to drop the drywall again or I have to go with the car and have them cut to fit the trunk.

If that isn’t enough, yesterday I get a card in the mail about an upcoming wedding engagement.
It’s the brother of the wedding I just went to.
It’s like a freaking epidemic and the have a REGISTRY FOR IT TOO!!!!!

I’m sorry but this is all new to us.
A registry for weddings, fine I have no problems with that.
A registry for a bridal shower, hmmm well maybe but what happened to getting the bride some fun stuff and having a good laugh in the process.
Now they have a registry for an engagements, come on, give me a fucken break and the stuff on the list isn’t cheap.
What happens if the decide that they are not going to get married are we going to get our gifts back?
Today I took my mother to see what there is early so that we wouldn't get stuck buying something a little TO EXPENSIVE.

The whole time we were at the store all my mother said was "Oh My God" at the prices.
Then she said we should all pool our money and get then the Kitchenaid mixer and for a second I though yeah sure and then the evil side of Walker kicked in and I said no.
I told her we were going to buy four of the cheaper items, up to five hundred dollars in total from the four of us and let someone else sweat out the four hundred dollar mixer.

The last wedding, engagement and bridal shower cost my parents alone a thousand dollars.
Not this time especially now after the renovations going on.
Oh and get this, my mother has a bridal shower for someone else to go to this weekend.
It never ends.
I just think this is getting a little out of hand.

Here is a look at what’s left just in case some of you want to send them something.

Just lead me to the toasters....lol. I understand the logic behind registries (so you don't end up with 50 toasters) but honestly, whatever happened to giving a gift from the heart?

I never did that when I got married and certainly not when I got engaged. I would have been happy just to have the people I loved at my special day. That would have been more precious to me than any expensive gift. Maybe I'm the idiot. Now if anyone needs a toaster......

woohoo, maybe a renewal of vows is in order here for us. Do I get to make a wishlist for that too?
Belated honeymoon in Hawaii
or even Paris??!!
Or would I need to get remarried? What a sweet deal! I lost out big time, we just worried about getting hitched, got a date and time with a marriage commissioner and got it legalized, if it hadn't been for my parents in law, we wouldn't have had anything else, they held a small reception at their house. Since my family was all in Europe and my parents were upset about my coming to Canada and marrying, I didn't even get cards for the occasion.
Here we are, almost 30 years later and still together.
Walker, what's with Monica's blog? It's restricted access, can't log on..??

A registry for an ENGAGEMENT?
Are they smoking some good dope?
Honestly!

I'd tell them to to get bent!
You purchase gifts like those as WEDDING presents, and MAYBE a bridal shower gift.
But an engagement?
How about sending them a lovely $3.49 cent card that says "Congratulations!"

Ok, maybe a $50 gift card to one of their favorite restaurants as well.

Sheesh .....

WTF, a registry for an engagement!!!! That's just getting way too greedy.

PBS said...

Wow, that is very greedy! It's hard enough to find something affordable on a wedding registry!

It is getting out of hand. I remember when I did my wedding registry I purposely went out of my way to keep expensive items at a minimum.
I just want to SMACK your brouther. Hard.

Hey, I got a new dog, do you think I can register THAT somewhere? No, really, I could use some new things like a dog bed, new leash, water bowl., etc. Why do newly engaged couples get all the fun?

I put weddings announcements, etc., into the BILLS pile because that's what they represent to me.

AND, I ignore all requests for gifts until I get to the actual f-ing event.

Wow, I'm cranky today.

This blog discriminates against my browser of choice.

Someone please throw Walkers brother in the basement and lock the door.

You are not honor bond to buy a gift for the engagement. Just a lovely card.

Be safe...

I find the whole idea of registries a little presumptuous. Just get what you are given and be glad for it!
So did that drywall show up yet?

Hi Walker, I'm just going to concur with everybody else's stated opinions, get 'em four el-cheapo toasters and then don't attend.
